Get payment summaries
When managing medical expenses, understanding the various types of payment summaries available is essential, especially for Flexible Spending Account (FSA) reimbursements or tax documentation. Key components included in these summaries are detailed listings of all charges, payments made by you or your insurance, and any outstanding balances. These documents provide clear records for specific dates of service, offering transparency and helping you track healthcare spending. To make the most of your healthcare payments, request itemized estimates before procedures, review each bill for accuracy, and utilize online account tools or secure messaging options to access your statements conveniently.
Types of Payment Summaries
- Detail Bill: Shows all charges and payments for specific dates of service, including amounts billed to you or your insurer and payments already made.
- Guarantor Statement: Lists all charges and payments applied at the time the statement was printed; sent monthly if there is a balance due.
- Payment Summary: Includes a list of all recent payments, with posting dates and payment methods, but does not include individual charges.
- Other Summaries: Customized summaries may be available on request for tax, FSA, or other personal needs.

Four types of payment summaries
We offer four different types of payment summaries that can be used for taxes, FSAs or any other reason.
- Detail bill: This type of summary shows you all charges and payments (including insurance and patient payments) for specific dates of service. A charge is the amount billed directly to you or your insurance company.A payment is the amount you or your insurance company has already paid toward your bill.
- Guarantor statement: This is a bill that shows all charges – and payments applied to those charges – at the time the statement was printed. A guarantor is the person or group responsible for payment to Aurora. The Guarantor Statement is automatically sent to the guarantor each month there’s a balance due on the guarantor account.
- Payment summary: This is a list of all recent payments made. It includes the date each payment was posted and the payment method used. It does not list the date of service.
- Guarantor payment letter: This is a list, in letter format, of all of the payments posted to a guarantor account within a calendar year. It includes the date we processed your payment and the date the payment was applied to the account. It does not include the date of service.
